How Does One Receive Salvation?
Salvation is found in Jesus and only in Jesus, who is God in flesh [John 1:1, 14] and who died for our sins and rose from the dead. 1 Cor. 15:1-4 says . . .
"Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,"
How Does That Work?
This is how salvation works: All of us have sinned against God and deserve judgment. But Jesus never sinned [1 Pet. 2:22]. He lived the Law of God perfectly. In this, He has a perfectly righteous standing before God. When the corrupt Jewish leaders forced Rome's hand into crucifying Jesus, God used this crucifixion as the means to place the sins of the world upon Jesus [1 Pet. 2:24, 1 John 2:2]. This is when Jesus became sin on our behalf. 2 Cor. 5:21 says,
"He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
The crucifixion became the place where Jesus bore our sins in His body and suffered in our place. "But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed," [Isaiah 53:5]. Remember, no sinner could please God perfectly, and no sinner could offer a perfect sacrifice to God. Only God in flesh, Jesus, could do that.
So, since there is nothing we can do that is righteous before God (Isaiah 64:6 says our righteous deeds are filthy rags), then we cannot please an infinitely holy and righteous God by anything we do. But, Jesus who is perfectly righteous before God the Father, died in our place. What we could not do, He did.
How Does Salvation Help Me Escape Judgment?
If you want to escape the righteous judgment of God, then you need to trust in the sacrifice of God. You need to be made right before God, by God. This righteousness of Christ is given to you if you accept Him, trust in Him, and believe in what Jesus did. This is why the Bible says that we are saved by grace through faith. "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God," [Eph. 2:8].
When you trust in what Christ has done on the cross and in no works of your own (since they aren't good enough anyway), then the righteousness of Christ is given to you--even as your sins were "given" to Jesus. It's like a trade. He gets your sin. You get His righteousness.
Once you have trusted in what Christ has done, then you possess eternal life, and you will never face the judgment of God.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand," (John 10:27-28).
How Do I Become Saved?
Before you go any further, it is of the utmost importance that you briefly read 'What Is The Gospel?' section of this site in order to fully understand humanity's background and why all men stand under the judgment of YAHWEH.
The Bible declares that to be saved, you must admit that you are a sinner facing the righteous judgment of YAHWEH; then prayerfully confess all your past sins, and ask YAHWEH to forgive you of all sin, and to save you.
Deut 28:13 - "He who covers his sins shall not fare well, but he who confesses, and forsakes them shall have pity."
Romans 10:9-10 - "If you confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For the heart which believes in Him shall be declared righteous, and the mouth that confesses Him shall live."
Your prayer must be done with a heart that truly seeks to be saved. It cannot be something you "try", or "test", nor can it be something that you do out of pressure from friends and family. The Bible says that God only listens to the heart that is humble and broken. This heart can only come when you realize how depraved and lost you are without Christ.
How Will I Know For Sure That I Am Saved?
The biggest, most obvious proof of your salvation is an undeniable change in your life. A complete turn-around from who you were prior to salvation, and who you are after, is what the Bible describes as someone who is bearing "good fruit".
Were you a quick tempered, alcoholic? Proof of your salvation is that you no longer have the desire to swim in the sea of alcoholism.
Were you ill-mannered towards others? Proof of your salvation is that you are very careful when you deal with other people; caring for their well-being over yours.
Were you addicted to pornography, drugs, or all sorts of ungodly substances? Proof of your salvation is that you now have an incredible desire to put all of these things aside, and are willing to do whatever it takes to walk away from them.
As the Bible says in 1 John 3:8
"The one practicing sin is of the devil, because the devil sins from the beginning."
So anyone who claims to have salvation MUST walk away from everything that is sin, and walk in accordance to the Word of God.
There's No Way I Can Be Perfect, Does That Mean I Can Never be Saved?
Don't forget - Salvation is NOT about what you are able, or not able to do, but all about what God has already done for you through His Son Jesus Christ.
No man on earth can be perfect, but Christ became the perfect man for us - so, PERFECTION has already been achieved for you.
A christian does not have salvation because he was able to live the remainder of his life in sinless perfection, but s/he knows that when s/he sins, there is a perfect mediator who stands and intercedes on their behalf. Once the christian repents of that sin, s/he is immediately forgiven and moves on as if that sin was never committed.
The key is REPENTANCE. To repent is to grieve over the fact that you have sinned against a HOLY GOD, confess that sin, seek His forgiveness, and walk away with the intent of never allowing yourself to trip up again.
1 John 2:1 - My little children, I write these things to you so that you do not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."
i want to be saved.
Are you sure? Have you thought it over? The Bible says that we are to count the costs...have you done that?
The Christian life, though simple, is certainly not easy. It was brought with a GREAT price, and will cost a lot to be lived.
Are you ready for the persecution that will surely come? Are you able to handle rejection from those you love the most just because of your new beliefs? Are you ready to leave all behind to follow after Jesus Christ? Are you ready to forget about self, and put others' needs before your very own? Are you willing to see your world come crashing around you? Are you ready to have a realm of demonic beings target you every step you make? Are you willing to devote yourself to a life of prayer and fasting? Are you ready to turn down all of your friends and family that are not in accordance with the life God requires of you? Are you ready and willing to be ridiculed, mocked, beaten, teased, and even killed for the faith?
Though all these things MUST and WILL come, they are nothing compared to the GLORY that awaits the children of Yahweh.
I know this is a lot to throw at anyone who is curious about salvation, but the truth, the REAL truth, MUST be laid out for all to understand. I am tired of seeing preachers smooth over the christian life as if it is all milk and honey, because that is far from the truth. It is a constant barrage of spiritual, emotional, and sometimes even physical attacks. If you're not willing to accept all that come at you, I'm afraid you will not make it. The Bible makes it very clear that only those who persevere until the end will be saved. If the christian life were nothing but cotton candy sweetness, what would be the point of being commanded to persevere until the end.
You MUST count the costs, because those who taste the goodness of salvation, then turn their back from it, will receive a greater punishment then those that never knew and tasted the truth.
With that, I ask you: ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO BE SAVED?
yes i am sure.
Ok. I take it you have already gone through 'What Is The Gospel?', and understand it. If not, do so now.
The next step is to receive the salvation of Yahweh through Jesus Christ.
It is only a matter of talking to your Heavenly Creator and simply asking Him to save you. Some try to make it a lot more difficult with traditions and such, but it is very simple. When Jesus hung on the cross, one of the men who were hung beside Him simply said: "Do not forget me when you enter in your Kingdom." That was all he said, and Jesus promised him eternal life that same very moment. Why, because it was a simple prayer that came from the very depths of that man's soul that cried out: "SAVE ME!", and Jesus did.
So salvation can come to you today, right this very minute, if you will only humble your spirit before God, and ask Him to save you.
I will give you an example of a prayer. This is not to be used as your own. I encourage you to use your own words. Only use this as a guide, and example:
Heavenly Father, who created all things in wisdom and power. I realize today that I am a sinner, separated from you because of sin. I confess that I have sinned greatly against you, and fully deserve Hell. I admit that I have committed all sorts of filthy acts against you and against your anointed. I am sorry.
But I also understand today that you created a way of escape for me by sacrificing your one and only perfect, and sinless Son Jesus, in my place. I thank you so much for doing so, and I accept and believe that He is the spotless lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world. I believe, and accept that He was beaten, and killed for my sake on the cross. I believe, and accept that He was buried and rose again three days later for my sake. I believe and accept that He was later taken up to Heaven where He is now at your right hand interceding for me.
I sincerely ask you today, LORD God, that you save me. Wash me in the blood of your Son, and make me a new creature. Cleanse me of all unrighteousness, and fill me with your Holy Spirit. Make me into the likeness of Jesus Christ, and clothe me in His righteousness. Come and live within me today Holy Spirit of God, and be with me until my dying day when I awake in the presence of God. Give me the strength to persevere until the end, and give me a passion and desire to see others come into Your Kingdom. In the precious name of Jesus Christ I pray. AMEN!
Now that you understand that salvation is by the grace of God alone, through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and have asked God for His salvation, then according to the Bible you have met all of the requirements for salvation. If you are not sure whether or not you are saved, then read the section above, titled 'How Will I Know For Sure That I Am Saved". Understand that I do not hold the power, nor the ability to declare anyone saved. That is only the job of the Holy Spirit. I only have the power to tell you exactly what the Bible says.
Now that you have full faith in the saving of Christ, you must go and sin no more. This can only be done by the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling within you.
Go, and share the good news of your salvation. Tell others of this great miracle you have been afforded, and live your life for Christ, to the glory of God.
Be sure to devote time to pray, and study God's word. In it, you will find the strength and the instructions for daily living.
Be sure to find a Bible-believing church that can help you develop into a strong christian, and link with like-minded christians who love the LORD and are able to offer you support as you start out your christian walk.
Be strong and courageous. Put all faith in Jesus Christ, and not man. Man will fail you, but Christ will never fail, nor abandon you.
Do not let persecution, and discouragement to deter you, or take away your confidence in what God has done for you today in giving you life. Perilous times will come, but stand firm and contend for the faith. The treasures of this earth are not even worthy to be compared to the glory of the heavenly things awaiting you. If you lose all things on this earth, praise God, because He promises to return to you one hundred-fold.
